Screen resolution problems

I am on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit

I started assassins creed on 1024x768 resolution at 75 hertz when i changed it to 800x600 resolution the following kind of image (any refresh rate)came with the black strip on top and bottom



but when i played on my XP at the same 800x600 resolution the black strips did not appear .... so how do i rectify this ?

I think its a GPU related problem, Just verify if there is a driver update available, If so download and it and see if that can solve your problem. Also before installing the new drivers, also try to restart your game as soon as you change the resolution. This may be useful...

You need to install the software (called a 'device driver') which allows Windows and your sound device to communicate, same with your graphics card. Not exactly sure what you are after with changing the resolution but go to "display" in control panel --> settings --> advanced --> change the "dpi" setting to smaller or try a custom setting.
