Gimp text Features?

Hello friends, I have a problem and i hope someone could help me. I have been using photoshop for a quite long time and now i've switched to Ubuntu Linux. I really like the features of linux as it has all the necessary softwares pre-installed. I have been using photoshop for image editing and finishing and word art for text formatting. But on Ubuntu i see Gimp is a similar software but i see there are not too much plugins or features. Is it really a software which lacks the photoshop like touch or i am not able to get it...? Can anyone help me with Gimp text Features? Please help...

Gimp is a free and open source software. Gimp is a bit difficult to learn as a linux software it has some inheritance of the OS. Many features are hidden and you have to figure it out yourself by exploring the menus and tools and plugins. Gimp is capable of editing an image in a more better way then photoshop. Gimp is a great tool infact. You must give your time to gimp in order to learn it. Well like its said, Practice blends your skills...

Is there no way to implement word art like text features? Like i select a specific art and then i can change the color effect suppose red and add a bit of black shade to it? Well i do not want to switch back to windows. Is photoshop supported on Ubuntu linux? Please help me, i don't know what to do...

Is this what you want?

• Text in red. It is a transparent layer
• Alpha blend to Selection
• Expand the x pixels
• Create a transparent layer under the text layer and select it
• Select black color.

[Curve] Text effect :

• Create a new document
• Select the text tool and add text
• Go to the filter menu > Distort> Bend
• Select "Automatic preview"
• Change the upper and lower curves according to your needs.
