WSOCK32.dll Error message on startup

Good evening guys,

I'm keep getting the following error on my vista x86 machine:

C:\Windows\system32\WSOCK32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

This error coming from today morning on startup. Any ideas what its all about? do my pc is virus infected? how can i resolve it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Most of the times WSOCK32.dll error comes because of msn messenger, reinstall it or remove it from startup. To remove it from startup do the following:

Click on Start -> Run "msconfig" -> startup tab-> uncheck all unwanted items from list of startup and save it. Restart PC.

Hope this will resolve issue.

Error sounds like the winshock settings are currupted, or you need to rset them again to defaults. You can reset by running the following command in command prompt:

netsh winsock reset

Restart Pc. Make sure your admin of pc to run this command and run command prompt as administrator by right clicking on it and seleting option "Run as Administrator". Good luck.

Was there a time when they were all working ? Try System Restore to a previous date. And also before going for system restore run the system file checker, it verifies and fixes system files. To do this go to search type->cmd->right click and run as admin->type sfc /scannow.
