Windows Media Player control buttons won't hide in full screen

Anyone knows why my WMP controls won't hide anymore when I click full screen (alt + enter)? It used to hide automatically in a few seconds, but now the controls and the cursor are showing permanently. How can I make them hide again?

Here is what I did to solve this issue, first I unchecked both Display Full Screen controls in advanced options (one in DVD section other in video section). Then i noticed something (after many many tries) and if I leave my mouse pointer in the movie section of my screen, the controls disappear in about 5 seconds. if i leave it on the control panel or below, they never go away. seems like a ridiculously simple solution and can't understand why Mircosoft never mentioned location of mouse to hide control panel, but it worked for me.

It's funny, your settings now is what I want back. I followed your instruction in unchecking both "Display Full Screen Controls" in Tools -> Options -> Performance -> Advanced, and it worked. The controls are gone, but moving the mouse to the top or buttom won't display back the controls.

Thanks a lot for helping out, this is way a lot better than not having to hide the controls. I'm not sure what caused the changes, I reinstalled WMP, download & installed a standalone installer, reset the settings back to defaults, but none worked.
