I've read the other threads that are "similar" to this topic, but they never really touched on this problem.
Once I've logged into Vista (i.e. I'm in the Windows Vista environment) I can't do anything until all these startup programs load. Now, I know what you're thinking, "turn-off all these useless start-up programs..." - however, it's not that simple.
This is a brand new laptop (Sony VIAO, SR490, P8800, 4GB RAM) and I haven't installed many programs yet and certainly none that would boot up on login.
It still takes me forever to begin doing anything. I can't connect to the net, open other programs, etc. until it's finished booting up some software (i.e. which I'm not aware of).
Now, Sony has this weird software that allows you to use these six additional buttons near the screen to toggle between modes (school, work, home). These modes have different shortcuts, screen-savers, etc. Bunch of BS if you ask me. Anyways, this is the last thing that boots before I can begin using my machine. This does not, however, mean that this program is the culprit.
Is there a way to track how long each startup program is taking to load? If so, how? and which ones can I get rid of?
THANKS A BUNCH!!!
