You're using an older Windows or Mac OS X or you computer is not updated. Make sure you've installed all the latest updates to Windows or Mac OS X operating system, including updating the device connection and make sure you have the latest updates available for your computer
If damaged one of your music files or photos, iTunes may display one of these errors when transferring the file to the iPod. If you identify a file that is causing the error, try deleting and re-import the file from a backup file or the original source.
To remove error message : Firmware update failure. disk write error, try the follow steps -
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left), highlight
2. Go to the tab "Partition", click "Delete" or "Partition", if not, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to the tab "Erase", choose Volume Format as "Mac OS Extended, and click Erase, again if not, jump and go to 4
4. Same as Step 3, but open the "Security Options ...." and choose "Zero Out Data" before click Erase. It may take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a reset
6. Open the iPod update and click "Restore"
