How to add cab file in Windows 98

Hi,
I have a old computer which runs on Windows 98. Now I am using a accounting software that only needs Windows 98. Second thing I did not have the CD of that software. So it is really tough for me to format the compute. I am facing some issue in the computer. The computer is working extremely slow and it is not identifying a plug and play device. I thing if I am able to replace the Windows cab file then I hope that it will perform much faster. I want some simple solutions to replace a cab file in Windows 98. But I do not want to make my system crash. Any suggestions really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can try to do that. That can improve your system performance. But I will recommend you to take the back before doing this. All windows files are stored in the form of compressed file. This compressed files are called cab file. First create a folder in your hard drive. Anywhere you want. then insert your Windows 98 disc. Open the cd browse for cab files. Copy the files to the folder and then copy those file to C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS. Replace them and restart your pc.

CAB are common windows driver file. The files are located on the installation disk. They are stored in the form of compressed file. This compressed files have a list of several files. This folder also has hundreds of drivers. Just look for any ini file and right click on that and select install. Windows will look for the installation files and install it. The cab files are located in the Windows directory. The installation wizard will look for the appropriate location and does your job.

You can try and use System File checker. System file check is a Windows service which checks out your integrity settings of your operating system. It scans your computer and restore missing and broken files. It is most easiest and convenient way to extract cab files and place them on your hard drive. System file checker service is used to restore original files. Click on Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Information. Then click on Tools > System File checker. Run the service.
