Moonlight is an open source implementation of Silverlight, primarily for Linux and other Unix/X11 based operating systems. The Moonlight project has reached the beta stage of Moonlight 2.0, its open source web application framework compatible with Microsoft's Silverlight.It has been a long wait but the first beta of Moonlight 2.0 is finally out. Moonlight 2.0 beta is available for download from the Mono project's website. It is distributed as a Firefox plugin and is supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit Linux distributions.
This released version contains Silverlight 3.0 features like:
- Easing functions
- SaveFileDialog
- MultiScaleImage 3.0 API enhancements
- MediaStreamSource now supports PCM audio data, RGBA and YV12 video data.
- WriteableBitmap is supported.
Available as source code or as a plug-in for FireFox on Linux and Unix systems, the entire plugin is roughly 9MB and it bundles the Mono virtual machine and other necessary runtime components. It uses several pieces of Microsoft's Silverlight stack, such as the Dynamic Language Runtime and Microsoft's Silverlight controls.
