at the top of the range you have a layer Opacity slider it will just move the cursor to the left to provide transparency to make a color transparent simply select and then delete it (extra button on the keyboard)

you want to replace a color with a transparent box so it must selecton color and remove it (so there is more color to its location)

or you want to replace one color with another and there are several solutions
    - Selection \ color range and then you click on the image with the eyedropper, then you rule tolerance
    - Image \ Adjust \ color replacement
    - Image \ Adjust \ selective correction and you choose a color from the Colors menu
    - Image \ setup \ hue saturation
