    Play DVD's on Windows 2000

I have upgraded my old system from windows 98 to windows 2000. It is a very old pc on which my uncle use to work. Now The problem is that after upgrade the DVD is not working. It is used to read the DVD's before but now it is not working. What should I do know to make that thing work again. The DVD is shown in the hardware list and the light blinks on when I insert a disc. Other than this mp3 cd are working.

Download and install VLC media player. It is the best option to play all the audio and video formats. It is an open source multimedia framework. It is player and server also. VLC is a freeware and highly portable player which is capable of reading most of audio and video format. Download it from the below link. It is compatible with Windows 2000 also and does not required any extra codecs.

If you have windows media player in your system then try the option which can help you out. Go to Start and click on Run. Then type regedit. Locate the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Settings. Go to Edit and select New > String Value. Type EnableDVDUI and click on OK. Then double click on in and set it to 1. Close the editor and restart your system. Now check some DVD's weather they are working or not. If not then definitely it is the driver issue. You will need to upgrade the driver for the DVD drive.

You will need to download some decoders to run the disc i Windows 2000. When you perform a clean install this decoders are deleted so you need to download them back again. Look for Mediamatics DVDE. It is decoder from lenovo. If this not works then you can search for Zoron SoftDVD, XingDVD, etc. Other causes can be drivers and a firmware update that can make that thing to work.
