Excel 2007 hangs when opening network file

Hello friends,

I am facing some issues whenever i am trying to open any Excel 2007 file everything works fine if i try to open it inmy computer but if the same file is on a network and if any user try to open it through Network Shared. Excel 2007 Spreadsheet takes a very long time and sometimes user gets a message as Not responding. But if left for some 20 - 30 min the file 'opens', though it's extremely slow to do so. Can any figure it out what would be the issue in it.

it might happen that many users will be trying to use the same excel file because of which it opens very late and you think that it's being hang. If the size of the file is very large then also it takes a very long time in such kind of cases i would recommend you to tell user to have a copy of the same file at his computer and then try to access it and see if still he is facing same issue.

If the user try to copy and paste it on my local machine and then try to open it normally and my excel file size is not so much large, i don't want such kind of things. i wan to have that file on network shared only where user comes and access that file and save it over there only. Is there any alternative solution where it won't get hangs whenever a user access it.

I was also facing such kind of issue i try to follow the below steps and it worked out fro me hope it works for you too.

1. Before going ahead please Close all your office programs.
   
2. Then click on Start, click on Run and type regedit and press enter.
   
3. Now registry window would get open and try to find out the following registry key:
   
4. Office 2003
   
   • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Open Find
   
   Office 2007
   
   • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Open Find
5. Once you find that key now point to New on the Edit menu, and then click on DWORD Value.
   
6. Over here type EnableShellDataCaching, and press ENTER.
   
7. Now right-click on EnableShellDataCaching, and then click on Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
   
8. Finally click on Exit to quit Registry Editor.

That solved the problem here. I used


And did method three, that stopped the hangups but Excel kept trying reinstall the OFV tool with every network file open which was annoying.

So I went back and did method 4, and everything was back to normal.

For both methods I used the Microsoft Fix It option.
