| Re: Windows XP Excel will not open
We have had the same problem woth a few computers in our office, and it seems that it might be virus related as al of them have started with the Excel problem right after a virus has been removed. just insert your Microsoft Office CD and choose repair installation, that fixes the problem. |

Like stated above, you have to run the installation from the CD and choose repair from the selections, it will then repair the suite. |

| Re: Windows XP Excel will not open
Hallelujah, Someone from another forum just told me an incredibly easy fix for this problem Go to run and type in the box, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 Then in this file folder, create a new folder and name it, XLStart. Close it down and then relaunch Excel and hey presto, it all works again How people know this stuff just amazes me Hope this helps someone else in the same predicament. Griff |

When you double-click a Microsoft Excel file type (.xls), Excel starts as expected, but then you may receive an error message that is similar to the following: To resolve this issue, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK. 3. Open the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\shell\Open\command 4. In the right pane, click (Default). 5. On the Edit menu, click Modify. 6. Remove the %1 from the end of the Value data string so that the data string reads as follows: "C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE\OFFICE\EXCEL.EXE" /e (including the quotation marks) 7. Click OK, and then close Registry Editor. |
