System requirements for IE8

I downloaded the setup from download.com and did the installation but its not starting, previously i was using IE6 not IE7, and it was working without any issue. What are the system requirements for IE8? DO i need to install something else with this? Please suggestions !

Thanks for reply, sorry for not giving full info , actually its windows 2000. doesn't IE8 works with windows 2000?

No it doesn't works on WIndows 2000, Not even IE7 works on it. Microsoft says the task is too complex due to security features not available in the older operating system. Although Microsoft had said it was focusing on Windows XP SP2 only, the company did leave open the possibility of IE7 supporting Windows 2000.
