    Re: end user defined characters

The Platform SDK defines them simply :

End user defined characters (EUDC) are customized characters that users install for viewing and printing documents. They enable users to form names and other words using characters that are not available in standard screen and printer fonts. These characters are available only in Asian-language versions of the system.

    Re: end user defined characters

Creating End User Defined Characters :

    To create an EUDC :

    1. Choose a character value in the specified range or ranges of reserved characters.

    2. Use an EUDC editor to create the shape and style of the character.

    3. Add the shape and style information to the TrueType font in the entry that corresponds to the selected character value.

To associate an EUDC font with another font :

    1. Copy the EUDC font to a folder. The EUDC font has a .tte extension.

    2. Call EnableEUDC(FALSE).

    3. Modify the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\EUDC registry key.

    4. Create a subkey under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\EUDC.

    5. In the subkey that you created in step 4, enter the font path that contains the EUDCs.

      • For example, enter Tahoma=\windows\test03.tte in the subkey to link the Tahoma font with the test03.tte font located in the \Windows directory.

    6. Call EnableEUDC(TRUE).

    Re: end user defined characters

The EUDC registry key contains one or more subkeys containing values defining the fonts associated with end-user-defined characters (EUDCs) for a given code page. It has the following registry location:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\EUDC

    The format is :

    EUDC SystemDefaultEUDCFont=TrueTypeEUDCFontFileName TrueTypeFontTypeface=TrueTypeEUDCFontFileName

    where :

    • SystemDefaultEUDCFont : Predefined name used to set the system default font. There is no system default EUDC font unless this entry is explicitly specified.

    • TrueTypeFontTypeface : User-defined name associated with a non-EUDC TrueType font.

    • TrueTypeEUDCFontFileName : String consisting of the file name of a separate EUDC font file. This file identifies a font to be associated with TrueTypeFontTypeface.
