Uninstall open office from ubuntu

I have Ubuntu 9.04 and i had this open office pre-installed with the ubuntu 9.04. I have downloaded the new version of open office. And now i want to install my computer. So how do i Uninstall open office from ubuntu so that i can install the newer version... Please help guys!

Open Synaptic Package manager. search and locate Open office and remove it from there or you can uninstall it from command line interface. Hope this helps...

I cannot find synaptic package manager, so i think i will be uninstalling openoffice from command prompt. But that is again a problem. Can anyone help me with the command? I don't know what command to use.. Please help...

From the menu's navigate and open Terminal. A dos like window will open. There type the following command :

sudo apt-get remove openoffice

This will take care of openoffice. But if you want to install the newer version, you don't need to uninstall this one, just install the new version and the old one will be updated...
