Re: What is geo replication in SQL Server

Geo-replication systems improve the distribution of data across geographically distributed data networks. This enables improved end-user experience of data heavy applications such as web portals. Geo-replication can be achieved using software, hardware or a combination of the two. Geo-replication software is a network performance-enhancing technology that is designed to provide improved access to portal or intranet content for uses at the most remote parts of large organizations. It is based on the principle of storing complete replicas of portal content on local servers, and then keeping the content on those servers up-to-date using heavily compressed data updates. It uses the following techniques or algorithm :
    • SharePoint replication
    • Differencing engine technologies
    • Offline portal replication on laptops

    Geo-replication systems :
    • Infonic
    • Syntergy

Re: What is geo replication in SQL Server

Microsoft.com Engineering Operations (MSCOM Ops), the team responsible for architecting and managing many of the most heavily trafficked Microsoft Web sites, recently documented substantial replication performance improvements for both push and pull subscriptions in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 running on Windows Server 2008 up to 100 times faster than Microsoft SQL Server 2005 running on Windows Server 2003
So That Means if you have good piece of hardware, you will need Windows 2008 Server.
