Outlook address book crashes on advanced search

I am using Office 2007 with BCM on Windows XP SP2, When trying to address for an email, when we click on button to make changes on the address book from the Global Addressbook to a personal outlook address book the Public Folders addressbook and Outlook immediately crashes. I have tried re-syncing after the upgrades, deleting files, and resetting folders - they have all failed the same way - get just to the end of the Address Book portion of the sync and the thing just dies.

This is a very common problem which Microsoft claims they cannot reproduce
and therefore cannot solve, and the Microsoft has issued the following help:

    • This problem may be because of corrupt address in the Contacts or the contact that has not be available or valid which is displayed in the Outlook Address Book (especially if the crash at the same place when scrolling).
    • Make it confirm whether the address Remove then re-add the Outlook Address Book Service or, better yet, create a new Outlook profile.
    • And you need to Update your video drivers.

Advanced Find lets you see which fields are being searched by your specific keywords or criteria.

    • On the Standard toolbar, click Address Book
You can also open the Address Book from the Tools menu and in an open message. In the message, on the Message tab, in the Names group, click Address Book.
    • In the Address Book list, click the address book in which you want to search for names.
    • Click Advanced Find.
    • In the Find box, type the information in the appropriate fields.
    • The more information that you include, the more refined the search results are.

Note If you don't find the person you are looking for, you might need to look in another address book. Not all address books contain the same information.

If you are running into a corrupt entry.

    • It would be recommended that to Isolate what it is crashing on. This involves synchronizing the PIM's one by one.
    • You may also need to Create a new MAPI profile and have intellisync use that new profile.
    • Without PIM there would be many entries in it. Also Create a .pst and copy the folder being synchronized to the .pst then delete all the entries from the original. You need to Slowly add back to the entries from the .pst and do a sync in between additions. A side effect of this is that sometimes just moving them to a .pst and back will fix the corrupted entry.
    • Open the tif.log file that is created and scroll all the way to the bottom. This will be the record it was working on when it failed. Gather as much info as you can from the fields to identify the bad entry.
    • Select all PIM applications to sync, and sync one more time just to make sure all the bugs are out.
