This resolution can be used for all operating systems. If you do not want to disable script debugging, go to the "Download the updates to the Pdm.dll from the product update Web site" section.

To manually disable script debugging in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. On the Advanced tab, under the Browsing section, click to select the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) check box and the Disable script debugging (Other) check box if it is present.
    4. Click OK, and then restart your computer.

If these steps resolved the error message, you are finished.

If these steps did not resolve the error message, go to the "Download the updates to the Pdm.dll from the product update Web site" section.

See this similar thread for more help : Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I uninstalled 8 and it went back to 6.It was working fine .
Then i followed the steps below
    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. On the Advanced tab, under the Browsing section, click to select the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) check box and the Disable script debugging (Other) check box if it is present.

restarted the PC and installed 8 again without updates and after loging in i get error
"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 71ab664d

then downloaded and run Dial-a-Fix and restarted but still the same thing
there should be some reason the IE 8 dosent work fine???

You need to follow the below steps mention.

    1. Disable antispyware and antivirus software. To do this, right-click the appropriate icon for the antispyware or antivirus software in the notification area. Then, click Exit or click Disable.
    2. When the antispyware and antivirus software is disabled, try to install Internet Explorer 8 again.
    3. When the installation of Internet Explorer 8 is finished, re-enable the antispyware and antivirus software.

After uninstalling Internet Explorer 8, since you were getting Internet Explorer 6, it means that the IE8 was successfully uninstalled or removed. But since the error is repeating after installing IE8 again, there might be some problem with your IE8 itself. I would advice to share your problem with the microsoft contact support.

There can be some software's and their patch method which are not perfectly know, but i would recommend you to try this :
    Uninstall IE8
    Now upgrade IE6 fully.
Install IE7 and upgrade it fully
Install IE8 and update it too.
There are so many softwares that need systematic Upgrade...

I had the same problem for ages.

I tried downgrading IE8 to IE7 with no success. Then stumbled across "sfc /scannow". Type this in the run box and windows checks on your signed system files. After checking for a while it prompts you for your XP CD, (or any CD with the folder i386) and it replaces all files it thinks are damaged or changed. Restarted the computer and Wohoo, no error message!

    Phew..
