Can't install Office 2008

I am trying to install Micrsoft office 2008 but it always gives me error message "You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume". Hope someone can help me.

1) Download the 12.1.1 update directly from Microsoft's Mactopia website.
2) Mount the downloaded DMG file and copy the installer to your desktop.
3) Right-click the installer and select "show package contents"
4) Navigate to Office 2008 12.1.1
Update/Contents/Resources/package_updatable and open the file in TextEdit
5) Scroll to the bottom and find the line "found_valid_version=False"
6) Change False to True
7) Then delete all the text below until the start of "if not
found_valid_version:" Making sure that line is not deleted!
8) Close the window, it will ask if you want to overwrite the file. Say yes.
9) Close the finder window and then run the installer like normal.
10) Reboot.

If you receive error message "you cannot install office 2008 12.1.7 update on this volume. a version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume" that means you have downloaded the correct updater.

First of all which version of MS office you trying to install?First Quit all Office for Mac applications and Microsoft Messenger for Mac before installing any Office 2008 updates. The updater will not only work on the different language, if you installed English Office, the German updater will not work for it.

After installation, when I click on the Word, or Power Point, or Excel icon it takes me to the "take our survey" page and then the "check for updates" page, but never goes to the actual program. It just cycles over and over. Also, during installation, it never asked me for my product key of which I have 3, which I found to be rather odd. Anybody have any explanation? Thanks.
