Free .rar file opener

Hi, i am completely new to this glamorous and fantasy world of computers, where everything is possible, so i registered on this forum to learn something. Well i have trouble opening some files that my friends sent me on email. Those are image files but are not .jpg files instead those are .rar files. How do i open this files? My computer has Windows XP installed. Please help!!

The .rar file is not an image file format. Its a compressed file. The compression is rar compression hence its extension is .rar. You need to extract the actual images from the .rar files. As email-attachment has limited size to attach, hence the images are compressed by your friends into .rar files.

Ok, these aren't the image files and i need to extract the image files from this .rar file. So how do i do it? I don't know how to and i have never seen this file in my life! Please help!

Download any tool like WinRAR or 7-Zip and install the software. Then when you double click this file, the software willl automatically take control of the file and will open it within itself. Then you would see the image files in there, Just drag the files and drop it on the desktop and then move it to a desired location.
