Excel includes some labels that you can use to mark data points. You can easily find under Format - Data points - Data labels. What you have to do is just add some X value to adjust the data points to your chart.
You can even use some custom shapes as data points on your chart. For this use any handy symbol in Excel's extensive palette. Draw some shapes from the AutoShapes available on the Drawing toolbar on you worksheet. Resize, colour it and format it as you desire on your chart. Use Ctrl + V or Edit menu - Paste to paste your custom shape as your data point on your chart.
I want to add certain points to what has been suggested before and since you are new to Excel charts, it may be helpful to you. You can confirm in Excel help topic that the maximum number of data points that can be added for a data series in an Excel chart is 32000 for 2D charts and 4000 for 3D charts. And there can be 255 data series in a chart. So that comes to be 256000 data points in a whole in and Excel chart.
