Audio Delays in RDP and Terminal Services

I have a Windows 2003 Terminal Server, I am running DSS Player which plays recorded on this server. Redirection of sound works just fine, but there is a delay in sound for about 1 and a half second. This occurs with some more extensions which i tried to just to check, which include wav, and mp3. Is there any solution to overcome the delay? some precise information may be lost if the delay occurs. Please help...

Re: Audio Delays in RDP and Terminal Services

The delay may be possibly caused by :
    • RDP Audio driver
    • DSS Player
    • Redirection of sound from Terminal Server to Client

    Solutions that might work :
    • Change the player like use Windows Media Player instead of DSS Player
    • See if the delay occurs on the local client machine
    • Use clients with different Operating Systems like Windows XP, Vista, Linux
    • Increase the buffer size of the audio redirection

Re: Audio Delays in RDP and Terminal Services

I already tried using differet Players. I tried Windows media player, Real Player but did not seem to help. I used Windows XP, Vista and Ubuntu clients but that did not help too, the delay persisted. I also tried using different extensions to redirect sound, but all the formats have the same delay. I don't know how to change the the buffer size, if anyone helps me on that one, it may be helpful... Also i have tried it on local client machine but i don't have any delay there... What may be the issue? Help!!

Re: Audio Delays in RDP and Terminal Services

I have been using citrix and the sound quality is excellent. Audio is configurable in citrix according to the usage of bandwidth. But in RDP, there is no configuration that can be done fro audio. Also the sound quality sucks. As the audio parameters are not configurable, there nothing you can do about it. also the audio delay occurs in citrix too. If you are satified with the performance of RDP and thinking to switch over, i would suggest not to, as all the application will give you some amount to delay.
