Fix Error 0x80040706 object reference not set

Hi,
I was installing a DVD burner software in my computer. When i double clicked on the setup file it gives error " fix 0x80040706 object reference not set ". After pressing OK the setup was terminated. After some time I restarted my system and again run the setup the same error is coming. I scanned my system completely there is no virus in it. Then where is the issue I don't understand. I thought that the software's setup file is corrupted. But then I tried to install Ms Office, same problem is arising.How to fix this error. Please help.

This is an windows installer error. It occurred when an old version of InstallShield is installed on your computer. Your software is not corrupted neither you have virus. You can fix this error by getting the latest installation engines. You can download it from the Microsoft Website and update it. Even after that if the problem arises then you will need to change your software.

It is a windows installer error. It not due to virus or corrupt software. It just need a basic updation from the Microsoft website. But before that try the below steps "

• Go to Start Menu > Run > Type regedit.
• First take the backup of registy file so that if you still receive the error you can restore your settings back.
• To backup Click on File Menu in the registry editor and select export
• Export the file and save it in a desired location.
• Now back to registry editior.
• On the left side navigate to the following location : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
• In the right hand side, look for EnableDCOM file. Right click on it and change the value to Y
• Now exit the editor and restart your system.

The InstallShield Engine on your computer is a older version. If you update your system to a new one then you can fix this error out. To fix the error follow the below instructions :
Determine the version of your InstallSheild Engine.

• Open My Computer. Located your setup file. Right click on it.
• Select Properties and Go to Version tab
• Now at the file version coloumn note down the version no. for your installer.
• Eg. 8.0.158.0
• The above version is InstallSheild Engine 8

Download the Installer.

• Navigate to path C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine and delete the engine folder from there.
• Download IkernelUpdate.exe. file.
• After downloading run the setup to update your Installer.

You have note down that there are multiple version available. If 8.0 is not your then log on to the Micorsoft website for your of type installer file.
