Keep software running as it is after formatting hard drive

Whenever a hard drive is formatted in Windows a serial number is assigned in the end. Some softwares are restricted by number of software installations or number of activation. This serial number is often used by software applications to restrict a software installation to that hard drive or reduce the number of allowed activations by one by linking the serial number of the hard drive to one of the allowed activations. Some softwares might not work on your PC due to not able to recognise the old volume serial number. If you would like to change your hard disk Volume Serial Number to previous serial number to solve this issue, you can use Hard Disk Serial Number Changer.

Hard Disk Serial Number Changer is one small freeware to change the hard drive serial number, this disk serial number is generated by Windows when you format a disk partition, many software and programs be bind to this serial number, with this small disk tool, you can get a new hard drive volume serial number right now, without reformatting your hard drive.Prior to format your hard disk, remember to write down the volume serial number so that you can change the volume serial number back to previous one after it is formatted. If you are not sure where to get the serial number, just go to command prompt, then type dir and press enter, the volume serial number is listed as shown below:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>dir
Volume in drive C is OSDisk
    Volume Serial Number is 12AF-AABB
The standard serial number format is XXXX-XXXX, using HEX symbols 0-9, A, B, C, D, E, F. after program change serial number; you need reboot PC to apply it correctly.

Hard Disk Serial Number Changer works with file systems like FAT, FAT 32 and NTFS. The utility is compatible to run in Windows Vista/XP/ME/2003/2000/98/NT. Remember, this serial number of hard disk is not hardware serial number set by the manufacturer, the hardware serial number value won't change even if you format your hard drive. The software program is portable and can therefor be executed directly after finishing the download. The program will provide access to all drive letters of connected hard drives and floppy drives and their assigned serial numbers.

A click in the Serial Number text field allows to edit the existing serial which has to be in the form XXXX-XXXX with only hex symbols allowed.
