Windows Disk Defragmenter remain incomplete

The Disk Defragmenter application in windows 98 is completing. It restarts again and again and ask whether to continue. I rebooted the computer and run the application again to complete the disk defragmenter process. After a completion of certain amount it restarted. It is not completing the de-fragmentation of any partition.

It is not a big issue. Just restart your computer and run it in safe mode. Run the Disk Defragmenter application again. It will complete the process now. Even if after that it is not working then do the follwing:

1. First Turn off your screen saver. Right click on the Desktop > Properties > Screensaver > Select None > Ok.
2. Turn off the Task Scheduler. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Scheduled Tasks. On the top of the screen select Advanced. Now select Pause Task Scheduler. Close all the windows.
3. Turn off the Power Management. Go to Start Meny > Run > type powercfg.cpl and press Enter. Under Power Schemes set everything to Never. Click OK
4. Restart your computer and launch the process again.

Disk Degfragmenter analyse or defrag you hard disk for better perfomance. Your Disk Defragment is not completing due to numerous programs running in the back ground. Terminate the unwanted porcess from Task Manager. Otherwise try the below option to reinstall your Disk Degragmenter application.

1. Click on Start Menu > Run > C:\Windows\Inf
2. Look for the file dfrg.inf and right click on it. Select the option of install.
3. Restart your computer and run the application.

Normally user have issue with Disk Defragementer due to extra programs running. This effects the ability of Disk Defragementer. At the time of process, windows is trying to access the drive. The programs acts as an halt to the process. That's the reason it in not completing. To run your Defrag Service first do this -

1. Click on Start Menu > Run > Type msconfig.
2. In the window go to General Tab. Dis-select all the items listed under Selective Startup.
3. Apply and OK.
4. Restart your computer
