How to fix the desk.cpl error

I am getting the desk.cpl error when i right click on the desktop and go for the properties. I got the same error when i open the same from control panel also. i am getting this error continuously. My display properties tab is not opening after clicking on it.
What is issue with my display properties tab.

I was going with the same issue. If you are using windows 98 on your comp and deleting some entries form the registry will make your desktop properties tab work.
Click on Start > Run > and type regedit.
Navigate to the following tree :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\Display\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\

Clear up the values in PropertySheethandlers folder.

This happen may you had installed or uninstalled any new software program recently. And the software program has unable to clean the registry of windows while installing or uninstalling any new display driver.
Now, Go to Start Menu and click on Run.
In the dialog box type desk.cpl. If you receive an error for it then do the following.
Click on Start menu > Run > type regedit.exe
Navigate :
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ControlsFolder\Display\shellex\Propert ySheetHandlers\your display name".
Or
you can use DPS clean tool to fix your destop tab.

This may because of too many display properties tab is insalled. So,you will need to delete any .dll file whose names begin with Nvrs in your window system folder.
First start your pc in safe mode.
Then Go to My computer. C:/Windows/System32
Delete all the files whose names begin with Nvrs.
