| Re: My Windows XP shutdowns very slowly
After your work when you give the shutdown command your xp takes a long time for the process. There are several cause for this problem. The most common one is Clear Pagefile at Shutdown option is enabled. When you shutdown your OS just take care all the pagefile should be cleared. To clean shutdown the system this option cause the page file to cleared at the time of shutting down. Due to this you system takes a long time. Now you can disable this ClearPagefile option to increase the time of your shutdown. Go to Start Menu > Run > regedit. Navigate to - [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] Set ClearPageFileAtShutdown value to 0. You can also do this by using Group Policy Editor Go on Start Menu > Run > and type Secpol.msc Click on Local Policies | Security Options In the right side of the windows set the Shutdown to Clear virtual memory pagefile to Disabled Click Start, Run and type Secpol.msc Click Local Policies | Security Options In the right-pane, set Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile to Disabled |

I was having the same problem. To clear out this matter do the following steps : Click on Start and open the Run dialog box. Type regedit. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control. After, click on the Control Folder. Select the option of WaitToKillServiceTimeout Right click on it and select the option of Modify. Set the value of this option to lower than 2000. As the value 20,000 controls the time of XP shutdown process, by reducing the value it take less time. |

then try this once ....it might help u .... It will check every single registry entry to make sure it points to valid file names. If a broken shortcut is found it is deleted, so it doesn't take up precious resources. It Scans your System Registry for invalid entries and incorrect program shortcuts to insure there aren't any corupted files or missing shortcuts Startup management helps you customize your startup list and eliminate startup clutter. |
