| word dont keep toolbars customisations
On some computers in word 2003 and probably in others too why if you customize the toolbars (adding/removing buttons etc) these custiomisations are lost? This problem can be solved in registry?.. Is really a big problem, thanks Last edited by xromania : 01-05-2009 at 01:03 AM. |

Try resetting your toolbars: View> Toolbars> Customize Toolbars; check/select the toolbar(s) in question and hit reset.

oh thanks but i know this isnt a solution.. I found after a google search some: "The most likely reason is that Normal.dot (where your custom toolbar and toolbar customizations are being saved by default) is not being saved when you quit Word. If you have Adobe Acrobat 7 installed, that could be the cause; [..] Whether the problem is the Acrobat add-in or some other, you can force Word to save Normal.dot at any time by using Shift+File | Save All (that is, press Shift while you click on File, which will make the File menu display Save All). This will trigger Word to save all open documents and templates, including Normal.dot (you can Cancel on saving any open unnamed new documents). - yes this shift + save worked but isnt a ideal solution - my note It's a good idea to check the box for "Prompt to save Normal template" on the Save tab of Tools | Options so you will get a prompt when you quit Word when you have made changes to Normal.dot. Not only will this alert you that Word is saving your changes, but it will give you the chance to reject any changes that were made by an add-in, a virus, or even you (that you don't want to keep). Another approach that can be useful is to save custom toolbars and toolbar/menu customizations in an add-in (another global template). Create a new template, make your changes there (making sure that "Save in" in the Customize dialog is set to your new template and not Normal.dot), and then save the template to Word's Startup folder (the path for which is given on the File Locations tab of Tools | Options). This will cause your add-in to be loaded every time you start Word; your customizations will be available to all documents, and you won't have to worry about losing them if Normal.dot becomes damaged and you have to blow it away. Moreover, if you need the specialized toolbar only for certain documents, you can make the customizations in the template used for these documents or in another global template (which can be saved anywhere) that you load as needed through the Tools | Templates and Add-ins dialog."
