DiskPatch-A bootable data recovery CD/Floppy Disk

DiskPatch is a bootable data recovery CD or floppy disk that allows you to recover data from disks Windows can't even read by repairing corrupt file system structures. It also lets you recover data from a failing hard disk by cloning it to a brand new one.

DiskPatch Partition Repair is a menu driven DOS program designed to help you solve a wide range of harddisk problems. Mass data loss, a situation where access to an entire disk or partition is lost, is often caused by damage to meta structures such as the MBR, Partition Tables, LDM, or the Boot Sector of an individual partition. By repairing those structures with DiskPatch, data can be made accessible again.

DiskPatch is designed to tackle the most common issues that prevent you from accessing your data: a corrupt MBR (Master Boot Record), corrupt partition tables, accidentally deleted partitions, corrupt boot sectors, and 'bad' sectors.Corruption of the MBR, partition tables and boot sectors account for the majority of the problems that lead to 'mass data loss'; situations where an entire drive or partition can't be accessed.

Another common cause for data loss is unreadable sectors; while a few read errors may only have minor consequences and only prevent access to one or more files, large blocks of unreadable sectors can prevent access to individual volumes or even entire disks. In that case you can use DiskPatch to clone a hard disk (even when conventional cloning tools fail due to bad sectors or file system errors), scan the disk surface for read- and write errors and possibly fix bad sectors.

DiskPatch Partition Repair allows you to edit (patch) your disk using the built-in disk editor, partition table editor and boot sector editor. It also offers basic partition management (hide, unhide, set active) features.

If physical errors are found, you can use the Clone feature to make an exact copy of the drive on a new one. Unlike many Windows-based disk cloning tools, DiskPatch can copy drives even when they contain hard errors, allowing you to recover as much data as possible with a minimum of trouble. DiskPatch can also wipe your data from a drive so that it cannot be recovered, prior to disposing of it.

DiskPatch includes some handy disk utilities, including a disk sector editor with Undo function that allows you to correct disk errors and edit files by hand. You can also back up a drive's master boot record, boot sector and partition table so that they can quickly be restored should they become corrupted in the future.

DiskPatch Demo version is available for Download to try out the software and its user interface. The demo does not write to the hard drive and cannot perform a repair. However, it can create a diagnostic log file which is saved to the floppy disk or other location such as a USB memory stick.

Re: DiskPatch-A bootable data recovery CD/Floppy Disk

DiskPatch runs from a self-starting diskette or CD/DVD.The advantages are obvious: you can boot your PC and use DiskPatch even when Windows fails to start. Also, since Windows isn't running when you use DiskPatch, Windows can't interfere with the repair (Windows isn't 'in the way').Getting started is easy enough. Download and install DiskPatch and the included diskette and CD/DVD builder will take care of everything; one click and the diskette (or CD/DVD) is built for you.

Start the problem PC using the diskette or CD/DVD and DiskPatch will start automatically. The DiskPatch manual contains a quick-start and tutorials to get you started as quickly as possible.

After you have created the boot disk, use it to start the computer with the damaged or unreadable disk. Using its simple text-based menu system DiskPatch lets you choose the drive and partition you want to fix and then repair it.DiskPatch can repair the most common problems that prevent an operating system from booting up or reading a disk, including rebuilding corrupt boot sectors and partition tables and refreshing the boot code. It can also perform a surface scan to determine whether there are any physical errors on the drive that could be causing problems with file access.

You can 'prepare' for data loss caused by damage to the MBR, partition table sectors, boot sectors, or LDM (on Windows 2000/XP Dynamic disks) by using DiskPatch Partition Repair and it's unique proprietary backup system to create on-disk backups of those structures. Once a backup exists, damage to any of the previously mentioned disk structures can be easily fixed by restoring the backup.
