winmgmt.exe is the Windows Management Instrumentation. It is used by system administrators to create Windows management scripts, for example, scripts that handles the user accounts on a server. We strongly recommend that you run a FREE registry scan to identify winmgmt.exe related errors.

winmgmt.exe should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly. It is highly recommended that you run a FREE performance scan to automatically optimize memory, CPU and Internet settings.

Your PC's drivers may be out of date. This may cause hardware failures, conflicts and complete system crashes. We recommend you run a FREE driver scan to easily identify and list outdated drivers on your system.

    Re: winmgmt.exe errors

If you disable the windows management instrumentation service it will be fine. Try clicking start >> run and type 'services.msc' and when it loads find the service Windows Management Instrumentation and stop it, turn its startup type to disabled or manual. Reboot and see if that helps you out.

    Re: winmgmt.exe errors

The system.log is located in c:\windows\system32\config

    That's where mine is.

It may be hidden, so do a search for it in Find Files. If it dosen't come up, in Find Files, go to Tools | Folder Options. View. Show hidden Files and folders. Enable that, apply and OK.

Lets see what you have in there.

This is what I found in...

    C:\WINNT\system32\wbem\logs\

wbem is where winmgmt.exe is kept so I thought this would be a good place to look.

    Re: winmgmt.exe errors

It says DCOM, but thats usually only used in Win95,98 and Me.

You could try running dcomcnfg from Run. Are there any clients that haven't been registered?

Have you installed any software or hardware recently?
