burn .avi movie onto a dvd?

Hello, I have lots of movie in my hard drive contributing to atleast 100 gb. All this movie's are mostly in .avi file format. Some of the movies that are stored in my hard drive are too old, but I dont want to delete this classic movies. So I was thinking to burn it all on dvd disc. I have a burning software called Nero but I dont know how to burn avi movie onto a dvd in nero? If anybody can give me some suggestions it would be great. Thank you

You can burn the avi file movie by a program called VSO ConvertX to DVD if your standalone DVD is not able to playback AVI/DivX, and if it does then you can just burn the file on a CD/DVD. I wonder if nero burning software can convert AVI's to VOB's which is a dvd format.

I dont think that you directly burn avi to dvd format in nero. You will first have to convert it to mpeg2 format. I would recommend you isong TMPGEnc but and guess what you can do it all in its trial period as well. But it is likely to take over 2 hours to convert on a P4 3.0Ghz / Athlon64 3400 or higher and 4-5 hours on Athlon XP 2800. Good luck.

First we need to know what cd/dvd drive you are using. Then go here
http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero...utilities.html and download Nero Info Tool (second 'More Details and Download'), and unzip it, insert the offending disc into the drive, and run it. This should tell the characteristics of the drive (what it can read and write), as well as any information on the disc if it can read it at all.
