Hello,
I tried to log on in windows live messenger and got Error 80048820. Extended Error Code 8004840F. Troubleshoot says key ports. Can someone help me?

It seems like you got key ports error and if you are running certain type of security program you might have to enable certain ports in order for your applications to communicate to the internet.

Verify that Messenger is enabled through the firewall. If you disabled the firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger, try to restart the firewall. Also try removing the firewall program that is installed to verify that it is not causing a problem even if it is disabled.

Try to reset the proxy server settings for Microsoft Internet Explorer:

• Open Internet Explorer
• Click on the Tools menu
• Go to Internet Options
• Click the Connections tab
• Then click LAN Settings
• Uncheck the Automatically detect settings check box
• Click OK
