When you burn a DVD, its usually the ISO-9660 format which is used (either in Nero or other burning software).
Or the ISO-9660 format doesn’t support file which are more than 2 Gb.
If you try to burn a file which is more than this filesize:
• Some burning softwares won’t be able to do so (eg. Nero)
• Others will be starting to burn but will fail during the burn process.
• And some will burn completely but the DVD will not be read.
First, use a tool such as mkisofs to make an .iso of the file(s)/directory(s) you want.
Then use k3b to burn the .iso to dvd. You could also use growisofs to burn the dvd from the command line.
Mkisofs makes the .iso, but it also compresses the file(s). For example, a Linux liveDVD with 4.7 gb will expand to 7 gb or more when installed.
2GB is, I think, the file-size limit in FAT32 (or was that FAT16, with 4GB the limit on FAT32?). Is your file on a shared Windows partition by any chance?
If not, have a look in the options (I'm not familiar with Brasero/Bonfire) and see if you can
set ISO level to level 3 somewhere and try burning again.
To burn a file which is more than 2 Gb, use the UDF mode.
(In UDF mode, the maximal size of a file is from 18 446 744 709 551 616 bytes).
The UDF format is readable directly in some O.S.
(Except for Windows 95/98/ME and MACOS which will need a driver.
