Last Wednesday, at the MIX09 conference, Scott Guthrie, vice president of platform development. NET at Microsoft, has introduced the beta 3 version of the Silverlight environment.
Among the major features announced for this new version, Microsoft says that Silverlight will be able to run web applications offline. Microsoft's technology is thus aligned with Adobe AIR or Gears. Thomas Serval, director of the division and Platform Ecosystem, said that in the future it will be possible to automatically synchronize offline Silverlight applications developed specifically for utility Live Mesh. "It's a tool so powerful that we are able to bring true applications on the Web with very little latency" he says.
Silverlight beta 3 also nicely integrates multimedia codecs including support native format H264 codec and AAC for playback in full HD (720p +). In terms of graphics also note the introduction of 3D animations and level of perspective.
Scott Guthrie said that one of the advantages of Silverlight over Flash is indexed in search engines by automatically generating the HTML code easily identifiable. In fact, Silverlight 3 supports deep linking (deep linking) that allow users to mark bookmark a particular page loaded through Silverlight.
Scott Guthrie also noted that Silverlight is more simple Adobe AIR since it only requires a single download - the third version being lighter than the second - for a facility that would not take more than 8 seconds. "AIR is a separate download of Flash and Silverlight already has more users," said Brad Becker of Microsoft.
Throughout the world, the Redmond company would have recorded 350 million installations of Silverlight, a technology that would have attracted 300 000 developers. "There is an acceleration that is expected to increase thereafter," said Thomas Serval during a conference call.
