Beta 3 of Firefox 3.1, which will be renamed in version 3.5 when it is finalized, is finally here. Long because of multiple delays in its development, the third beta improves the main new features of Firefox 3.1, which are mostly under the hood.
As a result, the list of changes since beta 2 appear almost monotone:
- HTML rendering engine Gecko 1.9.1, with speculative parsing
- Improvements to the navigation mode closed
- Improvements to support web worker threads
- Improved performance and stability of the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine
- New native support for JSON
Support for new technologies such as Web beacons <video> and <audio>, the API of the W3C geolocation, the JavaScript query selectors, properties of 2.1 and CSS 3, SVG transformations and applications offline - line have already been addressed in the past.
On the other hand, it is certain now that a fourth beta that will be proposed before the browser comes into Release Candidate phase. Few versions of Firefox have received so many betas, but that has essentially provides substantial improvements in submarine which obviously require a test period extended.
Beta 3 is available in 64 different languages including French, of course. Although the download links given in the announcement still pointing to the beta 2, a simple modification of links provides access to the desired version.
