Need information on Volume Mixer in Vista

I have recently changed my operating system from Windows XP to Vista.
Apart from basic features which I have been experiencing on my own, I came to know about something called Volume Mixer in Vista. Can you give me information regarding Vista's Volume Mixer?

Re: Need information on Volume Mixer in Vista

Volume Mixer is one of the least-known features in Windows Vista

Windows XP had a single control for all sounds, and this controlled only the hardware. If an application's sound was louder or softer than that specified by Windows XP's volume control, you had to constantly adjust the volume.

Windows Vista allows you to choose the right volume for any running application. It's also very easy to use.
>Right-click the speaker icon in the notification area (systray) of your desktop.
>Click Volume Mixer to open the control.
>You'll see a list of programs running.
>Then, just use the slider bar to adjust the volume up or down.

Volume mixer is awesome. I use it quite a lot. Volume Mixer allows you to control sound effects given off by running programs. You can adjust volume for use with either speakers or headphones simply by selecting the desired output in the device column.

You can also choose to mute individual programs so as to not be interrupted by sounds from other running programs. If you change the output device, you will need to readjust the volume.

Re: Need information on Volume Mixer in Vista

The best thing about the Volume feature in Vista is when you double click on it, you can see a graphic indicating the volume slider. And just down below you can see a tab called Mixer (Volume Mixer)

Click on it and you will see different tabs.
The first one is default speakers level, then volume control for various noise making programs.

On the right hand side you get volume adjustments slider for all individual applications thats running in your computer at the moment, where you can adjust your volume as per your requirement.

Now you do not have to depend on window speakers adjustments but you can set your own rules.
