Unable to download programs

I'm on Vista sp1 is when I try to download a program on internet explorer browser or another, my internet connection gets cut and Internet Explorer restart each time. Weird, when I try to close a web page I get message of connection and disconnection. I have already disabled my antivirus of MacAfee and the windows firewall and still the same result. PLZ HELP

spyware can cause browsers to act funky also. probably wouldn't do just the pdf thing tho.

you could also reinstall IE, & do normal system maint. I keep copy of opera, firefox in case IE takes a dump. you can now download IE with those.

normal stuff to do that could also fix prob: reg cleaner; disk scan, defrag. clean out temp cache files in browser.

To confirm, try installing a different browser.. You may need to download the free Firefox browser on a different computer, then burn the installer file to a CD and transfer and install it on the problem machine. (See the link below.) Once Firefox is installed, see if the download process works.. If so, then you will need to repair Internet Explorer.. Let us know which XP you're using, SP1? SP2? because the repair procedures are different.
