Windows defender cannot update

Hello to all,


Here from few days Windows defender (under Vista sp1) not putting itself up to date any more.

The taskbar shows the logo of defender with a question mark , I clicked on it to update but that says “any new update file to me is not available” but that usually appears odd to me I always gets updates and the question mark never appears

Anybody facing the same? please help

Try this:

1. Open the command prompt
   
2. Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\ folder
   
3. Execute the following command: msiexec /x AS_Sigs.msi
   
4. Check for updates

Try running Control Panel > Windows Update, and do a manual scan. Are the Defender definition updates offered? Do they install? Is there an error code?

If that doesn't work, try here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/

Under "Latest Definition Updates", choose your operating system type, 32-bit or 64-bit, and try the manual download. Note here the instructions pertinent to Vista:
