ohmy Slow opening MS Office files on computer

    Hello Everyone,

I have installed Windows Xp on my system with Microsoft Office 2007. The problem is that whenever i try to open my Microsoft Office, it takes too long to open any particular Word document or Excel file. It really annoys me a lot. I don't under stand the exact problem. Can any one help out to resolve this problem? Any help on it would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

It seems that your Internet Explorer trys to detect the intranet settings while opening files, and once it does, every other file opened in that session opens without delay. Go to Security tab in Internet Options, click on Local Intranet, then click on Sites. Uncheck "Automatically detect intranet network", and
check "Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones" and
    "Include all network paths (UNCs)".

    Hope this works for you,

Just disable the recent history and everything will run smoothly. To do so, open your registry and find the key below. Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoRecentDocsHistory' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.
Registry Settings User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ Explorer]

    System Key:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

    Value Name: NoRecentDocsHistory
    Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)

You may try if this works for you simply by deleting the folder: D:\Documents and Settings\”user_name”\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent
If that helps just do the modifications above for a permanent solution.

I believe this is caused by drives that are no longer available, it can be Internet Explorer Removeable USB drives which are no longer installed, or mapped drives to other PC’s that are no longer on the network.

What I believe is happening is when you double click the file, for whatever reason, explorer is looking at these non-connected drives and it’s waiting on them to time-out before it continues with the load.

Check to see if there are any USB drives or if there had been any hooked up during that session. Also check to see if there are any mapped drives that could be disconnected.
