    Task manager disabled by administrator

I know theres already a post for this but i dont know how old it is, so here goes nothing.

My task manager when i press ctrl+alt+del says task manager has been disabled by system administrator. Ive tried everything to get it running and nothing is working. I ran HiJackThis and here is what i got:

Re: Task manager disabled by administrator

This error is caused if the Disable Task Manager restriction is enabled. To enable Task Manager, try one of these methods:

    Method 1
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
    Code:
    REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
    Method 2
    • Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
    • Navigate to the following branch:

    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System
    • In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableTaskMgr
    • Close Regedit.exe

Method 3: Using Group Policy Editor - for Windows XP Professional
    • Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.
    • Navigate to this branch:

    Code:
User Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options / Remove Task Manager
    • Double-click the Remove Task Manager option.
    • Set the policy to Not Configured.

NOTE: If this restriction was enabled in your system without you doing anything or without your knowledge, then it's highly likely that a Virus has blocked the usage of Task Manager in your system by enabling the DisableTaskMgr policy via the registry. I strongly suggest that you perform a thorough checkup of your system immediately. Steps listed in the Resolution section of this article helps you unblock the Task Manager, but that does not remove the Virus (if any) from your system.

Re: Task manager disabled by administrator

Yes the task manager was disabled by itself. I assume that i have a virus on the computer but right now im just trying to get the thing to the point where i can backup the computer. With the task manager i can control the popups and things that are running that dont need to be i can stop that process. The computer needs to be wiped out completely and have the operating system reinstalled but im trying some other things first. I really dont want to have to do all that.

But thanks ill try those things. Ive already tried two of them and it didnt work.

Oh!! So if you think that your computer is completely malfunctioning, go for the reformat. Atleast you will get a complete new OS running at rocket speed with no problems. Best of Luck
