According to Mary Jo Foley, Microsoft had distributed alpha components of Office 14 Server with some outside companies. The testers have access to SharePoint Server and Office 14 for Sales 14. During the year, the Redmond company will unveil the first beta of Office 14.

In February 2007, we learned that the development team of the office suite planned to concentrate its efforts on the following areas:

• Communication & Collaboration: Improving the timing of employees, partners, colleagues and communities,
  
  
• Process Management and Business Intelligence: Making the right information available through the process,

• Platform Office business, management and security: Making the simple creation of clients and web applications by making the Office worldwide deployment reliable, secure and easily manageable.

At the PDC in 2008, held last October, Microsoft has lifted the veil on the online versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint, applications mainly oriented use collaborative and based on the architecture of Windows Azure.

The most successfully integrated "office" program was called AppleWorks. where the user assembled a document on a page a bit like a DTP progam , adding word processing , spreadsheet and graphic elements seamlessly. It was a brilliant interface.a pity neither Apple or MS or even the Open Office have created anything to rival it since.
