angry Vista start up

I have a 2005 Acer Aspire E700 with Vista Home Premium that I had to rebuild with thhe factory recovery disk. I had to install nearly seventy updates. On start-up it won't light up the monitor until I do a hard shut-down
and boot it a second time. Any ideas on how to fix this?

angry Vista wake-up

I have a 2005 Acer Aspire E700 with Vista Home Premium which I have rebuilt with the factory recovery disk. Twice now I've a buttown by the start button and the computer went into sleep mode or hibernate. The first time I opened the case and re-seated the HDD cables and it came back I think
that was probably coincidence. What is the proper way to wake it up?

Frustrated!

Re: Vista wake-up

Simply press of the on/off switch should have woken the machine. I assume the BIOS is set for S3 standby.

You can set the keyboard to wake the machine. Use your Power Management options for the keyboard in Device Manager - it isn't set by default.

If wake-up from S3 isn't rapid you probably have a resume problem and should apply the recent patches.

If the machine loses power, or is switched off, when in hybrid sleep the memory state has been saved to disk - as in XP's hibernate option - and on power up the restoration of the memory state from disk can take a long time if you have several GB of RAM: watch the disk activity light to see if restoration is in process. If you have more than 4GB of RAM the memory state is never saved to disk: hybrid sleep and hibernation are not an option by design.

Re: Vista wake-up

After re-setting the HDD cables, is it booting properly without going to sleep or hibernate mode? If so, it is clear that the loose cable connection was creating the problem.

Actually, I didn't properly understand what you mean by this.
