Can't Activate Office Home and Student 2007

I loaded the software with no problem. Now wheneven I open a program a window comes up telling me to enter my product code. I enter my code but the continue button "deactivates" and I can not continue the process. I type in the first number of the product code and the continue button goes gray. I tried the software disk but that only allows me to add/remove or customize and I don't want to do either. How can I correct this?

Did you activate your Office?
If you didn't activate then it would go into reduced functionality mode.

Have you legally purchased you office 2007 pack with correct activation key ? if not then you have to purchase your activation key your office 2007 must be a trial version .

I read all the suggested links, removed Office Home and Student 2007, put the disk in to reload the program and when I was prompted to put in the product key the continue button "deactivated." The continue button "deactivates" when the cursor is in the product key space even when I just touch the space bar and do not type anything. I am not running Vista, I am running XP with the 3rd Service Pack. Can anyone suggest anything? Is there a way to contact Microsoft that won't cost me more money?
