Unable to play sound after fresh installation of Windows XP Home

I recently changed my hard disk, and therefore I reinstalled Windows XP Home and install Windows Media Player 11. I started to play some sound, but the software refuses to return the pictures to me ... I installed all compatible codec packs that I could find but nothing!!! I tried to install another player like VLC media player, Real player, Quicktime but no go !!!!

At last I came to in order to get some solution to this problem ....

What happens in practice when you want to see a video: does it blacks out, possibly an error message and do this happens with all types of videos.

Might be your graphics card drivers? Which graphics card are you using ? Have you upgraded your drivers ?

My graphics card is Radeon 9200 SE, I clicked on Update Driver, and then restart but the same concerns...

By the way, how can we know if the drivers (named) are up-to-date?

Regarding the drivers, ATI has stopped developing a number of cards along with its updates... Regarding the matter, the latest driver is version 6.11, otherwise requires version 6.5 with CP (Control Panel).

Can you give us your config: Processor, RAM, ...

Before installing the new one, uninstall the one already on your PC from "Add / Remove Programs".

I have not yet applied the latest drivers because of a small fear! And to conclude the message, my machine config: AMD Athlon XP 2600 + 210 GHz 512 MB RAM.

Just download GSpot that tells you exactly what codec is your video encoded.

Supported File Formats:
Input Files: ASF, AVI, DV, FLV, MOV, MP4, MPG, OGG/OGM, RM/RMVB, SWF, WMV

Description:

Video codec identification utility - identifies which video codec and audio compression method is used on .avi files, whether the matching codec is installed, and more.

Features :
  • Determines which video codec an AVI file uses
  • Determines what audio encoding method the file uses
  • Determines what codecs you have installed, and whether you have the one needed
  • Up-to-date database of over 200 codecs, including the latest DivX 5 and XVID systems
  • Shows reported audio bitrate and calculates video bitrate
  • Reports if the file is truncated, and how many bytes are missing. Great for downloaders.
  • Identifies MPG, MPEG, MOV, WMA, WMV, ASF or OGG/OGM if an unknown non-AVI file is examined.
  • Shows RIFF INFO (title, etc) if present, including hidden ASCII in the "JUNK" field
  • Easy to use ("File > Load" and you're done)
  • Microscopic footprint - download size only 29KB
  • Free for personal use
