Want to defragment C drive before Windows boot

I want to launch a defragmentation of my HDD (c: drive) before Win XP is booted. My C: is NTFS. Is it possible?

But why do you want to defragment before booting Windows? And why not after booting? However as you said your C drive is NTFS, it must not be fragmented completely.

Agreed that since C drive is NTFS, the HDD will be less fragmented. I want to defragment it because when the Windows defrag is launched, a bcp service is launched and thus the defrag is not very effective. Some clusters are not moved because occupied by an application or service.

In Safe Mode, there are fewer services, but it's not good that. I know we can run a scan before starting full windows, so why not Defragment ....

Why don't you try to defragment through command line? Go to the command prompt (Start -> Run and type "cmd" and press "OK") and type "Defrag <drive_or_volume_name>' and press "Enter".
