Windows Media Player 11 not working

I have a PC with Windows XP SP3. I also have an external hard drive where my music is stored. Everything worked very well and suddenly possible to play my music with Windows Media Player 11.

When I right click on the song chosen, and "read all" nothing, no sound at the bottom left of the player, rather than see the interpretation, it is mentioned "change of course media." I uninstalled the player and reinstalled it. But still there is no sound.

I have meanwhile changed my anti-virus to Karpersky from Avast. In Event Viewer, I do not have a red cross just three points exclamation blue: source = WPDClassInstaller. 24,581 error.

As you said you get an exclamation point in Device Manager, reinstall the drivers for hardware problem.

Gunilla I do not have any yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. Even I don't have any red in Event Viewer.

Try thorough verification of the hard disk by right clicking on a drive and selecting Tools tab. Then click on "Check Now" under "Error-checking". This will not hurt or cause any bad to your hard disk drive.

I've conducted this and at the end got four red crosses appeared in Event Viewer, all the same. Source: Disk - error: 11 - The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk5\D. Without further details. I say that when I leave WMP11 an error message appears on the screen but I do not have time to read it, it disappears as soon presume.

In that case, I would suggest you make a repair of Windows using the original Windows CD.
