    System Restore [Windows Vista]

    Hi,
I have a problem I can not resolve despite all the research that I conducted on this forum and elsewhere on the Net.
Since 4-5 days, my CD / DVD began to disappear from the job.
You obviously understand that I can not play a DVD or CD.
Rebooting the PC, it sometimes appears, but not necessarily.
And when it reappears, if I insert a disc in to play, the icon disappears and then it is impossible to access the device.
I suspect the recent installation of a virtual CD software (UltraISO) be the cause of the anomaly. Since everything has apparently started after this installation.
I have already uninstalled the software but the anomaly remains.
I tried the method of removing and UpperFilters LowerFilters values in the registry, but in vain.
The updated drivers has not solved the problem.
A message saying that the latest drivers are installed appears elsewhere.
At first I thought the material was dead, but far from it, since starting the PC on a CD-live Linux I managed to start and log on Linux.
    Configuration:
    Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
    Antivirus Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
    Toshiba Satellite A20013E
    Intel Core 2 Duo
CD / DVD: TSST Corp. CD / DVD TS-L632D ATA
The PC is dual-boot Windows Vista / Ubuntu 8.04 Linux and also, the CD does not appear.
In desperation, I planned to restore the system using the System Restore CD provided to the purchase by Toshiba (1 year ago)

But anyway if your anti-virus did not detect your problem, then change it !

Ah! then I do not understand. Antivirus from what I thought detect threats. If this is also done to detect technical failures of hardware or operating system, not related to a threat by a malicious program any time there is no need to buy antivirus software, since this might look to buy every month. In addition I buy because several told me he was the best this Kaspersky Internet security.
I really want to know more.
Maybe I should clarify that what I believe to be the cause is a conflict between two programs that are not malicious (Nero and UltraISO). The second is a "virtual drive" type alcohol 120.

    Thank you for your contribution.

So before you reset the PC, uninstall programs suspects (as UltraISO) that affect your drive near or far ...

Finally, why be simple when you can do complicated?

UltraISO was already installed, but good! His uninstall did not solve the problem. That is why I want to reset to see what happens. Remains a question: why Linux as the player does not appear? A friend comes to tell me 30 minutes ago he was convinced that Vista is doing nothing in this problem. He agreed that the player who died. Against me by the fact that the bootable CD go smoothly convinces me that the reader is not dead.

In short I am still at the crossroads.

    So:

    - For me, not sure reset is the answer.

    - You disconnected / reconnected the drive?
    - Have you tried the drive on another PC?
    - Have you tried another drive on your PC?

    - Is what you would not have made a false manip with UltraISO?
    - See if UltraISO is able to reset your reader

I disconnected / reconnected the drive and since it works well. I hope it is finally settled, because I did not really re-initialize the OS I will take the time necessary observation and I go back account.
