Word 2007 crashes

Since installing XP service pack 3 I get a BSOD every time I save in "docx" format but no problem in compatibilty mode (as "doc"). If I try to open an existing "docx" the same thing happens. Even highlighting an existing "docx" file to delete it crashes the system. The dmp file was not revealing -- a professional looked at the minidump and couldn't diagnose the problem.

Not the same issue. No HP driver involved. Happens even when I highlight a docx file for renaming or deleting, i.e. just after highlighting and before trying to delete or rename. Also when trying to open existing file or saving a new document as a docx. NO PROBLEM with files in "doc" format.

Start the system in safe mode and disable the add-ons.

Why don't you uninstall and then reinstall Office 2007 and see if the problem still persists?

Just follow the below steps:

• Start Regedit.
• Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
• Right mouse click on the "Data" folder and delete it.
• Close Regedit.

You can use the Open XML Translator for Open Office to be able to read and edit docx files with Open Office.
