ms project, merged schedule results in incoorect task number

I merged 3 seperate schedules into a master schedule maintaining the link to the subproject.

In the master schedule the task numbers are all mixed and in the wrong order as a result of the merge.

Is there a way to correct the task numbers so the are sequencial?

    Thanks in advance

Rather than set up some elaborate scheme to capture the existing sort, why not go to Project/Sort/Sort By and find out what criteria was used. Then just jot that information down and use it to re-establish the sort. You will have to manually enter the sequential numbers in a spare field - although this process could easily be automated with the following VBA macro.
