Need help to access Vista machine on network

I am now working on a network with two computers, one running Win 98 and the other running Win Vista Home Basic 32. My problem is that Win98 machine is asking for a password when I try to access Vista machine on the network. I tried lots of passwords which ever I remember I could have made but nothing worked. Is there any solution to fix this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On Vista machine,

Go to Control Panel->Network and Sharing Center ->Under Sharing and Discovery, set Password Protected Sharing to OFF

Have you disabled the password of Guest user also?

You can do that in two different ways:

1. Administrative Tools-> Computer Management-> Local Users and Groups-> Users->Right click on Guest and click Set Password-> Proceed-> Password field should be blank and click Ok.
   
2. On command prompt: Type Net user Guest ""

Why dont you update you windows 98 to xp, then you should be able to network, i very much doubt that vista would be compatible with 98, there were to many problems with 98, xp with service pack 1 at least
